On Oct. 2nd Kingston voters went to the polls and cast a historic number of votes for Eric Walton and the Green Party.
The official result for the Greens in the Kingston and the Islands riding amounted to 3,139 votes and 6.6%
of the popular vote, up from 1,174, or 2.4 per cent captured in 1999 by Green Party
candidate Chris Walker.

We have a lot to be proud of here in Kingston. We tripled our vote percentage from the last
provincial election. I'd like to thank all of our volunteers and supporters who helped make
this the best result in Kingston Greens history. And we achieved this despite another low voter
turnout in Ontario. Obviously, there is still a lot of discontentment and disenchantment amongst
voters in this province. It is our job to let them know about the exciting, future-looking Green Party
platform and that we offer a real alternative to the usual suspects. We must continue to build
our momentum in Kingston to lead the way for change.
Every additional percentage of the vote we receive leads to a proportional increase
in the adoption of Green policies by the mainstream parties. They are fearful of the
momentum Greens are gaining with voters around the world and feel they must co-opt the
progressive approaches found in the GPO’s election platform.

Do we, as a province, want to maintain the status quo, mortgage the future for ourselves
and for our children, pursue only short-term goals, and make decisions based on the
ideas of the last century? Or do we want to face the future with the hope and optimism
of fresh thinking, higher ideals, and a well laid-out plan for the next century?
The decision is ours and it is a serious one. Our environment and our way of life have
become increasingly threatened while the "big three" political parties have held power in Ontario.
They have failed to face the challenges of the new millenium in a thoughtful and responsible manner.
A new approach to social, fiscal, and environmental stewardship is required in Ontario;
the approach advocated by the Green Party of Ontario.

A green vote is a vote for the future.
The Green Party of Ontario is a young and
vibrant political party, made up of dynamic and forward thinking people.
Our members are the future
of this great province. Professionals, labourers, office workers, academics,
students, and seniors, we are all working toward common goals. We want to ensure
a high standard of living for ourselves, for our children, and for the many future generations
of Ontarians to come. We also want to ensure that the beautiful province we call home gets the proper environmental stewardship
and ecological balance it deserves.

The Kingston Greens have the attitude, energy, and progressive thinking to attain that goal.
