The third annual Kingston Greens fund-raising dinner was held at The Harbour restaurant in Portsmouth on Thursday, December 7th and once again we exceeded expectations!

140 diners, almost double the number from last year's dinner, gathered at the Harbour Restaurant in Portsmouth to enjoy a 3-course meal and to support the Kingston Green Party. The event was sold out over a week before and it was estimated that up to 40 more people had to be turned away!

Those in attendance were treated to delightful flute and guitar duets by Alec Lunn and Wes Weese as the they arrived, mingled, and chatted. After dinner, Green Party of Canada leader Elizabeth May thrilled the the assembly with one of her customarily rousing and inspiring speeches provoking a standing ovation and an engaging question and answer period. Folks gathered around Elizabeth May for the rest of the evening, learning more about her Green vision for the country.

Tickets were $60, $80 or $100 depending on the level of donation desired by the supporter.  Bidding in the silent auction was very active on items ranging from original framed artworks by local artists to canoe rentals, gift baskets, CDs and gift certificates from many local businesses.

Many, many thanks!!:

  • First of all, we'd like to extend a hearty thanks to Elia and the staff at The Harbour Restaurant who did an excellent job hosting and catering the event.
  • Another very big thanks to the inimitable Elizabeth May for delivering an entertaining and thought-provoking speech, after a long, hard-fought and almost successful campaign in London North Centre. Elizabeth does not understand the phrase "down time" -- she's the ultimate source in renewable energy!
  • Our thanks to Alec Lunn and Wes Weese for their excellent musical accompaniment to the evening!
  • Thanks also to all the generous silent auction donors. And to all of those who made bids. And to all of those in attendance for helping us generate funds and excitement for the next federal election.

After her engaging and inspiring speech keynote speaker and leader of the Green Party of Canada Elizabeth May continued the discussions on a smaller scale until it was time to go home.

Many in attendance lined up to have their picture taken with Elizabeth May. Pictured here, from left to right are Mrs. Matheson, Elizabeth May, Teresa Matheson and Robert Matheson, newly elected city of Kingston councillor for Loyalist Cataraqui district.
