The Kingston Greens represent the Green Party of
Ontario and the Green Party of Canada in the Kingston electoral district. The financial and
political obligations of the party are met by the members of the
executive with a great deal of help from local members and
volunteers.

We believe that government can and should maintain its
integrity while serving the people. This is a crucial point,
one which isn’t highlighted enough in today’s politics;
if the ruling party cannot be counted on to act according to
their principles, then the people can never be certain of what
they will be getting when they vote a party into government.
Governance with integrity is the cornerstone of a democracy.
This is the Green Party’s starting point – no broken promises.
We believe that the first concern of government ought to be the
health and well-being of all of its citizens. This ‘well-being’
does not consist only of economic prosperity, of course; it
includes intangibles such as education, safety, and happiness to
name but a few.
We believe that the way to achieve this end is through balance.
A community of people which governs itself well is one which
measures the consequences of its actions, not just short-sightedly
and narrowly as so many in politics do today, but with an eye to future
generations and to the aspects of our environment which are beyond
ourselves. Such far-sightedness is integral to our overall well-being
since what affects others will eventually affect us or our kin as well.

We have learned the hard way that polluting the water, the air,
and the land and causing the extinction of vast numbers of animal
and plant species not only brings our own end nearer, but also makes
life here in the present much less pleasant. Not long ago summer was a
time of fun and relaxation here in Kingston; today, because of the
intensity of the smog, for many it is a time to dread. Not long ago Lake
Ontario was a clean lake to swim in and fish from; today, much of the
lake is off-limits for swimming and those who eat fish from its waters do
so at their own risk.

We of the Kingston Greens say that the time for action has come.
We need to take control of our future and ensure that it is a prosperous
one for us, for our children, and for the others with whom we share this
planet. To this end, we reject the traditional right/left continuum along
which all other parties in the country (and the world) situate themselves;
instead, we embrace those solutions which best fit the problem at hand.
See the sections on Kingston Greens Values
and our Election Platform
for the details of this balanced approach.
