About the Kingston Greens

The Kingston Greens represent the Green Party of Ontario and the Green Party of Canada in the Kingston electoral district. The financial and political obligations of the party are met by the members of the executive with a great deal of help from local members and volunteers.

Mission Statement

We believe that government can and should maintain its integrity while serving the people. This is a crucial point, one which isn’t highlighted enough in today’s politics; if the ruling party cannot be counted on to act according to their principles, then the people can never be certain of what they will be getting when they vote a party into government. Governance with integrity is the cornerstone of a democracy. This is the Green Party’s starting point – no broken promises.

We believe that the first concern of government ought to be the health and well-being of all of its citizens. This ‘well-being’ does not consist only of economic prosperity, of course; it includes intangibles such as education, safety, and happiness to name but a few.

We believe that the way to achieve this end is through balance. A community of people which governs itself well is one which measures the consequences of its actions, not just short-sightedly and narrowly as so many in politics do today, but with an eye to future generations and to the aspects of our environment which are beyond ourselves. Such far-sightedness is integral to our overall well-being since what affects others will eventually affect us or our kin as well.

We have learned the hard way that polluting the water, the air, and the land and causing the extinction of vast numbers of animal and plant species not only brings our own end nearer, but also makes life here in the present much less pleasant. Not long ago summer was a time of fun and relaxation here in Kingston; today, because of the intensity of the smog, for many it is a time to dread. Not long ago Lake Ontario was a clean lake to swim in and fish from; today, much of the lake is off-limits for swimming and those who eat fish from its waters do so at their own risk.

We of the Kingston Greens say that the time for action has come. We need to take control of our future and ensure that it is a prosperous one for us, for our children, and for the others with whom we share this planet. To this end, we reject the traditional right/left continuum along which all other parties in the country (and the world) situate themselves; instead, we embrace those solutions which best fit the problem at hand. See the sections on Kingston Greens Values and our Election Platform for the details of this balanced approach.

George Clark - (Executive-At-Large)
George Clark was born in the United States and moved to Canada and a teaching position at Queen's University in 1965. He admired Pearson, became a Trudeau fan, moved to the NDP in the 80s. In the Mulroney-Chretien era, Clark became actively involved in social and public affairs in Canada. After some years with the NDP, he joined the Greens seeing them as the only party with a real sense that humanity must live on and in this earth, that we'll have no second chance if we degrade the global environment, the world we live in and of which we are a part.

Wilfred Sorensen - (Executive-At-Large)
Wilfred was born in Denmark and came to Kingston in 1941 at age 11. He has a bachelor of architecture degree from McGill University and has practiced architecture in Kingston for 35 years. He now runs Bubble Action Pumps Ltd. a company that makes circulating pumps for solar water heating systems powered by heat energy instead of electricity. As a hobby, he tends the family wood lot by thinning and pruning and increasing the variety and quality of trees in it. He would like to see Kingston become more pedestrian and bicycle-friendly and would like to add to Kingston's beauty and health by adding to and protecting the city's trees.

Jude Larkin - (CFO)
Jude is a nature-loving health nut. During the day she works for Hummingbird Ltd as a computer programmer. Jude spent 10 months working with horses in England and has travelled all over North America to wild places to cave, kayak, canoe, hike, ski and climb. She grew up in Ottawa but has lived longer in Kingston and prefers it because of its smaller size. Jude has a BSc in Biophysics from Guelph and the same in Computing and Information Science from Queen's. Aside from the Peace Petition Caravan Campaign, various marches and sending money to causes she has not been involved in politics until just recently. Jude decided to join the Kingston Greens team when she discovered the Green party platform is so sensible decided she wanted to help promote it.
